Struggling with your hygiene? or want to improve your routine? Get the help you've been looking for with these hygiene musts that will make you feel and smell amazing!
1. Seek professionals
This includes going to your check ups consistently (e.g annual, GYN, dental). You can skip avoidable trial and error problem solving by going to a professional and asking questions to learn more about YOUR body and the unique care it needs.
If you are not able to physically see a doctor, look for creators whose profession requires them to be knowledgeable about the topic/issue you want to focus on.

2. Time-blocking
Treat your hygiene care like important events. Look at your current routine and make time for self-care. It doesn’t matter how cute you are or how nice your fit is – if you have poor hygiene, you’re a dub.
3. Reminders
Set reminders on your phone to remain consistent with routines and add things that don’t occur in your daily routine to your calendar. Examples include waxing appointments, and checkups
4. Use products as directed to maximize their effectiveness
Are you one of those people that doesn’t read directions or likes to rush? Not using a product as directed can diminish its effectiveness. Take the time to read and use products as directed ESPECIALLY if your way isn’t working.
For example, when using deodorants there are several things to keep in mind: apply to clean and gently exfoliated skin and allow your deodorant to fully dry before getting dressed. If it’s taking too long to dry, you’ve applied too much. Have different options to switch between during the week.
5. Layer
Layer cologne and perfumes with body spray for signature scents and longevity.
6. Intentionality
Be intentional with how you use your products. Keep perfumes on clothing. The fibers in clothing hold onto fragrance longer than skin.
If you want a scent on the skin, use scented oils
7. Switch to mostly fragrance-free products
Here’s the trick: only use fragrance for your “finishing products” - the last products you intend to put on your body like hair/body perfumes and hand lotions. These are the products you will smell the most. Fragrance can really throw off your body's pH, so using products that are heavily scented could worsen your hygiene. Be smart.
8. Essential oils
Some Essential oils like Tea tree oil have antimicrobial and antifungal properties that fight odor and infections.
9. Floss
Flossing is WAY too overlooked. Dentist recommended flossing at least once a day. Regular flossing cleans the parts of your teeth a brush can't reach, removes more plaque and stimulates healthy gums.
10. Drink water
Drink enough water for your body daily.
11. Probiotics
Probiotics have healthy bacteria that improves both your digestive system and overall hygiene
12. Diet
What you put inside will show on the outside. Poor diet can increase the risk of bad breath, dental decay, and foot odor. Follow a well-balanced diet and consume essential vitamins so your body can operate at its optimal level.
13. Go Miniature
Purchase travel sized versions of the products you use. That way you have them on the go.
14. Kits
Create kits with your must-have hygiene minis and keep them at the ready in your car, at a significant other’s house, and other places you frequent.
15. Extra clothing
This is a lifesaver! If you get food on your clothing, are sweating, or have a menstrual accident, you can easily grab a fresh top or underwear from your kit, trunk, or bag.
16. Cotton
Cotton fabric is breathable and absorbs moisture. For the vagina, cotton prevents odor buildup and infection.
17. Looser clothing
Loose clothing and underwear is also breathable and is less likely to trap sweat.
18. Fresh Laundry/Clean Clothes
Dirty clothes breed bacteria and will smell. Wash and wear clean clothing always.
19. Steam
For garments you can’t/don’t want to wash often, use a steamer. The high temperature will kill bacteria and give a nice pressed look to your pieces. Try not to get products or sweat on these types of garments.
20. Cornstarch
A safer alternative to talc you can use on your body to effectively absorb moisture and minimize friction, which helps prevent rashes
21. Exfoliate
Exfoliating removes dead skin and reveals the younger layer of skin underneath. You have the option of chemical or physical exfoliants. Do research and find the best option for you AND remember to not overdo it! You don’t want to damage your skin.
22. Moisturizing
Don’t be lazy. Take the time to lotion your face and body. Can’t be walking around with the dry skin, now lol
23. Dry Shampoo
Doesn’t matter what hair type you have. When used as directed, dry shampoo keeps your hair smelling GOOD all day.
Straight: Dove Dry Shampoo
Curly: Living Proof’s dry shampoo
24. Hair perfume
A “finishing product” you can use like you would any body spray/perfume.
25. Short, warm showers > long, hot showers
Taking short, warm showers are better for you especially if you have sensitive skin. Long showers are wasteful, they can clog your pores, and dry out your skin/hair.
26. Baths
Taking baths give you an opportunity to submerge your body in a concoction of your choosing to help tackle any hygiene issues. They are also relaxing and healing.
27. Wipes
Just wipe and refresh! Using body wipes is a good way to maintain your hygiene throughout the day.
28. Trimming
Use a trimmer such as scissors on body hair to limit odor
29. Clean space
A clean space declutters the mind, prevents bugs, and fights odor. Regularly open your windows to let fresh air flow through your space.
30. Mental
Your mental state can affect hygiene maintenance. Make sure you are taken care of mentally so you can consistently take care of yourself physically.
