“The greatest wealth is health.”-Virgil

Are you truly successful if you’ve accomplished your wildest dreams, but aren’t feeling well enough to enjoy them? Living your best life is only a good experience with proper health.

Putting your mental, emotional and physical health first is KEY to your success and as we work towards our dream lives we have to make this a priority. I want you to WIN so let's get to work. Here are 7 simple steps that will help you reach your health and fitness goals:

Step 1:

The Power of One

Focus on one health or fitness goal. Sometimes we set too many goals and overwhelm ourselves. I’m sure there are other categories of your life (e.g. relationship, finance) you have goals for, so let's focus on one goal for each section at a time.

In some cases, it may not take the full year to reach a particular goal you have. If that’s the case, only then should you focus on your next H&F (health and fitness) goal.

Step 2:

Be Specific & Stay Focused.

When we set goals that are too general, our motivation to stick with it can die over time. Being specific brings clarity. You want to have a strong emotional connection with the goal you create for yourself.

Ask yourself, why am I making this goal?

Instead of “I want to drink more water this year,” say “by *this date*, I will have increased my daily water intake by 4 glasses.’’

What is your vision for your health and fitness and how can you make into a goal that is specific?

Step 3:

One Step at a Time

Starting off small is KEY. Break your goal for the year into smaller, easily achievable actions.

For example, if you want to increase your water intake by 4 bottles, have a start off strategy of drinking 1 extra glass of water every day for 7 days. Then after the 7 days, increase by another glass and so on until you reach your goal.

Step 4:

Be Everywhere

Make your goal annoy the crap out of you, lol. Set alarms (not reminders) on your phone, make it your wallpaper on your desktop, write it and put it on your ceiling above your bed so you stare at it every night before falling asleep. Do whatever you have to do to hold yourself accountable and make your goal consistently present in your daily life.

Also, tell one person you trust what your specific goal is and inform them of your strategies.

Step 5:

Suck Your Own D

A lot of us set all these goals, but low-key don’t believe in ourselves. Don’t waste your time. Do what you can to truly believe in yourself.

Speak and move in the present as if you’ve already reached your goal. This is the best thing you can do for yourself. Being your biggest support is most important.

Add affirmations to your routine. I have a post on 14 Powerful Affirmations for Health You Didn’t Know You Needed to promote healthier thoughts. You can also take it up a notch and create an affirmation paragraph and read through it daily

Step 6:

Make It Attractive.

Simply tracking your goal allows you to see your progress and is an instant form of gratification for your brain that can increase your motivation to achieve your goal.

Put fruits in that water, put the infused water in a cute cup and drink it through an even cuter reusable straw. Make it a goal you want to track. If you make your goal something your brain looks forward to, you’ll be more likely to continue.

How can you make achieving your goal attractive?

Step 7:

Reward Yourself the Right Way.

At the end of the first 7 days, reward yourself with something that encourages you to drink more water like splurging on a new water bottle or a better water filter (depending on your budget).

Then when you reach your goal for the next set of 7 days, reward yourself again. Get comfortable with treating yourself in beneficial ways. Sometimes we reward ourselves with things that don’t feed our goal. Use your rewards to help you to continue to level up.

Don’t reward yourself with buying more stuff after decluttering or indulge in your favorite cake or ice cream after achieving a goal of having less sugar in your diet for a week. Although there’s nothing wrong with those options, there are more productive ways to reward yourself.

I'll leave you with this…

Being healthy and fit will allow you to maximize your quality of life. It will give you the energy needed to accomplish your other goals and allow you to be the best you can be for yourself and everyone or everything that is important to you. Each day you make your health a priority, you give yourself the freedom to be more, do more, and love more.

How would achieving your visions change your life?
